Balik Kampung

What an auspicious day it is (13 Jan 2006) - also a Duruthu Poya Day, and the very first (Buddhist) Poya Day this year. A lot of things are related to Buddhism.

Bodhi is the latest addition to our family, she has finally joined us in her new home... Her vet had visited the litter and given all the puppies the necessary injections. Hank (Dog Owner) called in the afternoon and advised that we could pick up Bodhi any time today.

Strangely enough, Sathees and myself decided that we would have vegetarian fried rice for lunch. No meat in the fridge at all. It would have to be the first time I have gone vegetarian in Sri Lanka. Well, we couldn't get meat as it was Poya Day as well. When Alan joined us and we told him about our diet, he recalled that he had taken vegetarian meal too.

You see, Bodhi is the name of the tree (ficus religiosa) under which the Buddha attained Enlightenment. Bodhi is also known as the Tree of Enlightenment.

One of my nieces, Wennes, is in Maha Bodhi School in Singapore. I am sure she will be thrilled that we have our puppy named Bodhi. Well, here's some pictures of our six weeks old Bodhi...
