Old versus New
The old electricity meter reading was probably installed when the house was built some 20 years ago, and had not been replaced. It was tampered, tapped by other neighbouring house, & abused in other ways only the locals would be able to tell you. We were paying way too much (yes, twice as much as compared to Sydney).
I made the complaint about 18 months ago, and it took the guys 8 months later to come to our place to inspect & confirm that it was indeed tampered, then another 10 months for the replacement meter to be installed, but just 4 minutes to have the meter changed. Talk about efficiency from the government board.
Oh well... a meter still looks like a meter. Analog, that is.
Do they have digital meter these days?
