Rasika learning to make pizza. I showed him on youtube the way pizza dough was stretched, flipped & tossed. He decided to give it a go as well.
Homemade Thin & Crispy Pizza, made to perfection.

Just the way we love our pizza

Eranga's off days are now on Fridays and Saturdays. Together, we made pizzas for lunch. It was interesting, we made two different types - one was a base we bought at the supermarket, and another base was made by me. We both preferred the thin crust pizza dough, which I made.

Pizza is quite a luxury item here, just like KFC or McKers. Nothing satisfies better than a home-made pizza that allows me to use my own herbs from my vegie garden, and it costs next to nothing. :)

I have finally made my first homemade pizza here in Singapore. I was going to make this for Chi & Kung before they departed on Tuesday but I wasn't game enough to attempt this without first trying it.

Pictured above was a seafood pizza, and it was pretty good. But if I could add basil onto it I think it would have been better. I haven't any luck growing my own basil, I think I need to get some good soil for that.

Australia vs Sri Lanka in the World Cup Cricket Final...
We have the boys over at our place to watch it on the big screen. In the afternoon, the boys came over with too many SriLankan crabs which I must say it was my first since I have been here; a huge mullet almost the length of my arm; and a couple of kgs of prawns and squids. That was heaps of food, considering we did our own marketing this morning as well. So, Alan and I prepared food for the evening, but snapped at nothing as we were all too quick and my hunger overpowered my weakened mind.
Then, Loyed was asking me if I had snapped any pictures of the food - that was when I took out the camera. At that time I was already preparing pizza, working the dough and putting the ingredients on top.
Well, there you have it... pictures of the pizzas, some were ham and salami, some with prawns and a couple simply vegetarian specially made for Ragul.

Here's a slightly burnt seafood pizza (below), I actually like the crispy burnt bits...

Finally, a group picture of us watching the cricket at 3 weeish hour. That is, after the swim at midnight, food, booze, and lots of partying. It was lots of fun getting together, Loyed was missing in the picture though - chilling out in the verandah having his beer.

We had Dim Sum just about 2 hours ago, we went to The Furniture Mall searching for a possible display cabinet but to no avail. So, we walked to Kampong Glam Food Centre in search of a possible pizza place that opened there. Found it!
ROC Pizza
The menu was simple, manageable on a one-man operation basis.
The owner is really young too, late-20s if I could safely say so.
We order Beef Salami, and it was simply:
1) 12"very thin crust
2) tomato base
3) 2 types of cheese
4) beef salami
Though it was good, I can definitely say that Rasika & I have done better homemade pizzas.

Alan came back 7ish & was not keen to go out to the nearby food centre. So I started making pizza base, and prep all the ingredients. And using the huge prawns that Alan brought home, the pizza was piling up with so many ingredients.
It was just Yum Yum... :)

Pizza Nite

Monday has always been a challenge to get fresh food from the market, it is almost impossible to get anything from the wet market.

We had cravings for pizzas the other day, so I thought I would simply make them myself. Not many places in Singapore make good pizzas. And even if they do, they charge a fortune.

Home-made pizza

Wednesday, 23 January 2008

Was very surprised to see the bakery production for Nayomi near the bridge going towards Pitipanna. It was no wonder that Alan mentioned the last time we were there, that the bread and the food were fresher than other shops. Mind you, he didn't even know that there was a bakery production unit there.

I brought Rasika there for breakfast this morning, spent Rs140 on a vegetable bun, a ketchup cheese mini-pizza, an egg pastry and 2 drinks. I thought it was a good experience for Rasika to see what the people were doing, and how they got to be successful at doing what they do.
This is a project in the making, so hush hush for now...

Alan & I had pizzas for dinner, it was of course not his first choice of food. But he's such an angel, giving in to me everytime... well, most of the time.
So, I had this craving for pizzas and there were heaps of Italian restaurants in Seminyak area where our villa was. We ordered a Napolenta and a Frutti Di Mare, they were both great. And I was a very satisfied customer, the pizza base was thin and crispy and wood-fired. The ingredients were minimal but adequate, with good quality tomato sauce. What more can I ask more?
Trattoria is truly the place for good food, and nice Italian ambience.
Oh... 2 pizzas & a large Bintang beer cost us only IDR 86,000 (abt USD 9)

This is Raja... he now works for us too. He cleans the place well, and I am also teaching him how to cook. We have cooked some stuff together already. For instance, the first day we did spaghetti, then the muffins for the pool guys, and pizza etc. etc.

I can see his love and passion for cooking, he writes down the recipes and the instructions after each cooking that we have done together. He likes to write a lot, detailing the stuff that he has done for the day and stuff.

Raja starts at 8am and finishes at 7pm, Monday to Saturday. Breakfast, Lunch and Tea provided for by Chef Alan and "Chef Otoko", which is what he calls me... I am enjoying my cheffy status, to be honest. :)

Finally we have, in our vegie garden, both Holy Basil (left) and Spice Basil. These are the ones that Alan and I use regularly in our cooking.

Recipes using Holy Basil as an ingredient adds a peppery taste to the overall dish, while Spice Basil gives a distinctive flavour (neither sweet nor peppery) and we use that in just about every dish we put on the table - Pho noodle soup, fried rice, spaghetti, pasta, pizza, stir-fry vegetables, etc.
